I went to go watch this movie on 04/27 and wanted to think on it before I decided to leave a review. I've never done a review, but I had to for this movie. This review will contain some spoilers.
Pro's:
The opening scene was great in my opinion. We pick up from where we left off, the survivors feel guilty for what happened and decide to go find Thanos.
The moment between Thor and Captain Marvel was fitting. Two powerful beings recognizing one another.
The emotional toll the audience feels from the aftermath of the snap 5 years later.
Tony finally getting the family he always wanted.
I am one of the few that thought that Nat's death was a satisfying conclusion. In the first Avengers she describes the way her and Barton met, and how she owed him a debt. She sacrificed her life because she knew Clint was going to get his family back.
Tony seeing his dad.
A few moments in the final fight scene. There were parts I did not like (Cap summoning lightning after Thor had restored his worthieness)
Tony's death. I felt this was the only way that Marvel could continue without him. They couldn't just retire Tony because that is not who he is. It was fitting how Peter apologized and Pepper told him that it was okay to finally rest.
Sam becoming Captain America. I know Bucky becomes the new Cap first, but with his Winter Soilder past, I think it is more appropriate for Sam to wear the stars and stripes.
Con's:
Fat Thor. I read up on it and apparently Chris Hemsworth and the directors really wanted to do this. I was not a fan of it. To me it just doesn't feel like something Thor would do. That's not the man that Odin raised him to be. I can understand being depressed and feeling guilty, but he wouldn't have turned his back on his people. I was expecting Thor to have a dream where he would talk to Odin and snap out of it and become the Thor from infinity war. Any time that Thor has ever felt unworthy, Odin had always been there to reassure him of his worth and power. I thought Thor was going to turn down Hulk and Rocket, have a dream about Odin, then show up at the Avengers facility looking like his old self. They built up Thor and finally did him justice in Infinity War. But then completely diluted his power from start to finish all for a few "laughs.
Hulk. I thought the Professor Hulk had so much potential. He had the best of both worlds. Banner's intelligence and Hulk's strength, but instead they made him a pacifist. Ever since Avengers, they have slowly diluted his power and made him more of a joke.
Cap. There is no way that Captain America abandons his duty and goes back to the past in order to hide. Wouldn't that mean that Bucky is still the Winter Soilder? Sam Wilsom never becomes the Falcon? Tony is still selfish and arrogant? Does he just watch all of the chaos from the past movies and shrug his shoulders and go back to his new life? It does not make sense to me. Marvel set up the perfect way to give Cap a chance at a family life with Sharron Carter.
Thanos. Infinity War finally gave us a villain that we could understand and empathize with. There was a valid reason to his madness, however in Endgame they kill that Thanos and give us a one dimensional blood thirsty murderous Thanos. It was like a fleshy Ultron. Infinity War Thanos gave us emotion that no other villain gave us.
Time heist. I am not going to even try explaining this. I tried to follow and once the movie comes out on DVD, then I will rewatch it and try to focus on the reasoning behind it. It left a lot of plot holes to me.
Tony's funeral. I felt like it was rushed and I was really expecting to see a statue of Tony like Thanos hoped they would build for him.
All in all I thought the movie had some really good moments and some really bad moments. I gave it 6/10 stars because I felt the good moments slightly outweighed the bad. I personally do not think it was a good enough wrap up to all of the films that came before it. I felt it was rushed and was made for the generation of fans that started watching the movies about 5 years ago. The fortnite scene made that pretty evident. I felt like they should have gone back and rewatched every movie in a weekend before even attempting to write a script. I felt like the energy that made those movies was not present in this movie. I know a lot of people will initially disagree with me, but go back watch all of Phase 1, 2, 3, especially Avengers, AoU, Infinity War, and then watch this movie. I promise you will not feel like it deserves 10/10.
